Nicolina Farella, Ashoka Québec

Pour sa maîtrise et son doctorat en sciences de l’environnement, Nicolina a mené des recherches interdisciplinaires en Amazonie brésilienne. Ses études visaient à proposer des stratégies pour réduire l’impact de l’agriculture familiale sur la dégradation des sols, de la forêt et des cours d’eau. La participation des fermiers et de leur famille lui a permis d’élaborer des alternatives reflétant les intérêts locaux. Lors de ses séjours en Amazonie, elle a rencontré de nombreux entrepreneurs sociaux des milieux de la santé, de l’environnement et de l’éducation oeuvrant dans des projets innovateurs tel que que l’éducation environnementale par le biais des arts du cirque. À l’Université du Québec à Montréal, elle a eu l’opportunité d’assister des étudiants de maîtrise et de doctorat dans leurs démarches pour l’obtention de bourses d’excellence. Nicolina a aussi travaillé au CRDI (Centre de Recherche pour le Développement International), au sein de l’équipe Écosanté où elle participait à l’administration de programmes de financement et de support pour des projets de recherche en Asie et en Amérique du Sud. Au CRDI, elle s’est intéressée à des initiatives qui ciblaient l’amélioration de la santé humaine par une meilleure gestion environnementale, et qui favorisaient l’implication des divers acteurs locaux. Depuis Octobre 2006, Nicolina participe au programme de sélection des Fellows d'Ashoka et développe le tout nouveau programme GenV pour les jeunes.

Celia Cruz, Directeur d'Ashoka Canada 

After five years as the Director of Ashoka in Brazil and Paraguay, with a combined vibrant Fellowship of more than 300 Fellows, and over one year as Managing Director of Global Fellowship, working from Toronto and Washington DC with a strong team around the globe, Célia is now the Director of Ashoka Canada. Before she came to Ashoka, Célia worked with the Institute for Development of Social Investment, where she was a Program Coordinator for two years, creating community foundations in a number of Brazilian cities. She founded the fundraising consulting firm Philantropics in 1994 and served as fundraising coordinator for the School of Business Administration of São Paulo, Fundacao Getulio Vargas, until 2000. Célia also served as São Paulo's representative to the Fundraising School of Indiana University's Center for Philanthropy from 2000 - 2003. Célia has a Bachelors in economics from the University of São Paulo and a Masters in economics from the School of Business Administration of São Paulo with exchange programs at York University (Canada) and ESSEC (France). She has also earned a National Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Case Western Reserve University's Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations. Célia has served on the Board of Directors of several organizations including Associação Rodrigo Mendes, the Brazilian Association of Fundraisers, the Volunteer Center of São Paulo, IMAFLORA, AISEC, and the Committee for Social Engagement of Instituto Akatu. She co-authored a fundraising book entitled, Captação de Diferentes Recursos para Organizações Sem Fins Lucrativos in 2000.
